How to calculate fence panels
Divide the total length of the fence run by the width of one fence panel. Because partial panels usually cannot cover a full remaining section, the result is rounded up to the next whole panel.
Fence calculation example
A 100-foot straight fence using 8-foot panels requires 12.5 panels by calculation, so you would round up to 13 full panels.
How many fence posts do I need?
For a simple straight fence run, a basic estimate is one more post than the number of panels. More posts may be required at corners, gates, transitions or structural points.
Panel spacing, gate openings, terrain, post size, local wind requirements and installation method can affect actual quantities.
